When we were slaves

We don't know pain, we have never been separated from our loved ones, unlike when we were slaves.
We had no voice, we had no choice.
Kidnapped from people we knew and taken to a place far-away a place unknown.
When we were slaves we milked their cows, ploughed their fields, washed their clothes.
We had lost our names and were given new ones and when we don't do our functions we were sold at auctions.
When we were slaves we were whipped our women were raped. All night they weep and our men  in silence wailed
When we were slaves we dare not defy our masters or keep a hard face that might scare our masters.
When we were slaves, we lost fingers when we stole and lost half our feet if we dared to run away.
When we were slaves, chains were our only treasure, we never saw our masters wife or daughters whenever they pass by we turned away.
When  we were slaves, we kept our anger within us and dare not speak of our true intentions.
When we were slaves.
